Rosary Prayer for Fr.
Ragheed Ganni
One Year After His
Martyrdom

After one year on the
martyrdom of Father Ragheed Ganni on June 3rd
2007, many priests, deacons and faithful gathered at St.
Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral in El Cajon, CA on
Monday June 2nd to pray the Rosary in
remembrance of that tragic day in Mosul, Iraq where the
martyred priest lost his life with three of his
sub-deacons.
As much as it was a sad
and painful day for many of his parishioners in Iraq and
many of his friends and relatives around the world, it
should really be a glorious honor that now he is joined
with the Saints and the other Martyrs of our persecuted
Church with the Lord in His heavenly glory.
For that honor, as our
Bishop Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo noted on the martyrdom of
Fr. Ragheed; we (the people) should be asking for the
prayers of Fr. Ragheed and the other Martyrs of the
Church, to pray for us because they are really the ones
who deserved the Glory of Heaven in shedding their blood
for Christ and His Church.
Mngr. Felix Shabi
prepared a special speech for the occasion as he
remembers Fr. Ragheed as a cousin and friend, growing
together in Iraq and staying in Rome at the same time.
The Chaldean Choir of St. Peter Chaldean
Cathedral presented many hymns throughout the Rosary
Prayer. The first and the most special hymn was the one
sung by Fr. Ragheed in Arabic called “Nu Adthimuki Bil
Madaeh”, which he recorded by his voice with his Choir
in Sweeden. The hymn is about our Mother the Virgin Mary
whom the martyred priest honored so deeply.
